“Doc” Richardson died of pneumonia Nov. 4, 2010, at his home in Ruxton, Md. He was 98.

Doc was born in Baltimore, graduated from Gilman School in Baltimore, and, after graduating from Princeton, returned to Maryland to study medicine at Johns Hopkins, from which he received his medical degree in 1938. He joined the Army Medical Corps in 1943, served as chief of urology with the 51st General Hospital in New Guinea, and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of major.

After the war, Doc joined his father in the practice of gynecology and urology. He later was on the staff of Hopkins Hospital, the Hospital for the Women of Maryland, and the Union Memorial Hospital, where he was the chief of gynecology. He also was a consultant at Fort Meade Army Hospital and conducted monthly cancer-detection clinics in Hagerstown and Frederick, Md. In his spare time, Doc was an amateur photographer whose work won many prizes.
Doc is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Catherine Foote Richardson; his
daughters, Linda C. Parsons and Nancy P. Richardson; son Edward H. III; and three grandchildren.
