Doug died unexpectedly in his sleep Aug. 19, 2010, in Sheboygan, Wis. He was 59.

Doug was born in St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 20, 1950, and graduated from St. Louis Country Day School in 1968. At Princeton, he majored in history and was a member of Cottage Club. His roommates included Scott Badenoch, Peter Benner, Bill Colson, Max Gomez ’73, Geoff Marchant, Mike Siegel, John Wallace, and Brad Wyche. After Princeton, Doug pursued a long career in advertising in New York City (at Dancer Fitzgerald Sample) and San Francisco, and eventually retired to Wisconsin, where he had spent his childhood summers.
 

Friends remember him as an avid reader with a passion for history and sports. He was always a proud and loyal alumnus who cherished his Princeton friendships.
 

Doug was predeceased by his father, Dr. Hugh Richard Harting ’46. He is survived by his daughter, Emily Gasparro; his sisters, Joan Harting-Barham and Barbara Harting; and his cousin, Reb Gregg. His cousin once removed, Rebby Gregg ’88, has fond memories of the many Princeton reunions he shared with Doug.
