Dave Jenkins died Oct. 21, 2010, in Sandpoint, Idaho, of rheumatic arthritis.

Dave came to us from Scranton (Pa.) Central High School and Andover. At Princeton he roomed at various times with Tom Corwin, Joe Delafield, Frank Kemp, and Barry Bosak. Dining at Cannon Club, he attempted to major in politics, but extracurricular activities continually interfered: Dave was accepted at Princeton thrice and was forced to withdraw twice, including in December 1962.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in child psychology from the University of Denver, he taught both skiing and academics. He excelled at both and was substitute teaching using the Waldorf Method before his death.

Dave recently observed that he would have been terribly unhappy as a lawyer laboring in an office . . . anywhere.

Skiing was his passion. Paul Burgert can attest to Dave’s enthusiasm and abilities. Following him down Baldy’s canyons (Sun Valley) was impossible. He loved lacrosse and soccer — even sitting on home-team benches at Sandpoint games. Sports were an outlet for his restless spirit. He won a Carnegie Medal for Heroism in 1954 and served in the Marines.

The class extends condolences to Dave’s sons, Thomas and Lucas Eagle; his daughter, Bryn; his siblings Danny, Buddy, and Dana; and daughter-in-law Stacey Jenkins.
