Conny Hunter arrived in our midst from California via Berkeley High School. He came full of fun with his bugle at the ready for Palmer Stadium duty. He was even known to don the tiger suit on occasion. He was on the Undergraduate Council, rowed crew, ate at Cottage, and was the first Class of 1948 president (1944-45).

After graduation Conny went to Europe with the Quakers to do relief work. After a couple of years he returned to what he called “an explosively liberating education at New York’s Union Theological Seminary.” His first assignment was assisting David Romig ’48 at Riverdale’s Presbyterian Church followed by a call to Riverside Church to guide its youth ministry. Nine years later he moved to the Summerville Presbyterian Church in Rochester, N.Y., where he served for nearly two decades. He had a subsequent call to serve Rochester’s Third Presbyterian Church for five years. After his “second retirement” he said his energies and good will were sent where his “pacifism and passions for social, racial, and economic justice resonated.”

Conny was welcomed into paradise Nov. 27, 2010.

He is survived by his widow, Dorothea (known affectionately as “Dot” by many of us); sons Peirce, Nat, and Stan; and his daughter, Darcy. The class shares in mourning a treasured friend.
