Charlie accelerated through Princeton, graduating in ’46. He then toiled through Harvard Law School, but turned quickly to a high-powered advertising career in New York.

He wrote in our 40th book that his “most successful achievement” in life was raising his five children, Kristyn, Stephen, Margaret, Charles III, and Phillip. In due course he became a loving and beloved grandparent of five and then the great-grandparent of one.

He married Stephanie, his second wife, who added one daughter to the family. Charlie told us that his entire brood grew up (or were doing so) into solid careers and were dedicated citizens.

Charlie was active in Princeton’s large Alumni Giving programs in Fairfield County, Conn.

Late in life he turned back to the law, joining a firm with a practice in both Connecticut and New York.

He died Dec. 30, 2010.

To Stephanie and the family, we send our very best wishes.
