Bob died Jan. 17, 2011.

He entered Princeton from Andover, joined Quadrangle, and played varsity lacrosse. His Princeton career was interrupted by the war. He served in the Army, then returned to the University in 1946 and earned a history degree a year later.

He married Suzanne “Sue” Somers in 1946 and entered his father-in-law’s lumber business in Atlantic City, N.J. In 1958 he opened a retail hardware-paint-lumber business in nearby Pleasantville, which thrived until his retirement in the late 1990s.

Bob was active in the community. He served on the Northfield school board, and he volunteered as a tutor in the public schools and with a local literacy program. He and Sue traveled extensively. They bicycled widely in the United States and abroad; they hiked, backpacked, and skied. For years they presided over an annual Christmas family ski trip that created a closely knit 15-member, three-generation family.

In addition to Sue, Bob is survived by his brother, George; a sister, Elizabeth McNish; daughters Kip Rebick and Chris Waters; son Rob; and seven grandchildren. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
