In light of the recent controversy about bicker, I would like to add my voice to the increasing chorus of “no’s.” As a member of the Class of ’60, I participated in the bicker committee of Cap and Gown, taught later at Princeton as a faculty fellow at Stevenson Hall and then at Wilson College, taught at Virginia and Yale (where secret societies were in the minority), and at U Conn (ditto). The pain and paranoia associated with bicker have no place at Princeton, and the plan suggested by some to make bicker free of the selective process (except according to free choice) has great merit. President Tilghman, please think about this!
