Thomas W. Morris ’65 is correct when he refers to the “decline of music education in the schools” (A Moment With, June 1), as school orchestras seem to prefer Star Wars to Mozart. Later on, when he refers to how “adventurous” programming can be used to create younger audiences, he says that “the further an orchestra goes toward merely selling nostalgia, the older its audience will be.” I never quite thought of my listening to Mozart as being nostalgic. Anyway, one must educate the educators so that they know what might be good for children’s ears — unless regular exposure to great things now is considered old-fashioned as well.
