Alfred Specht, formerly of Atlanta and Wilmington, N.C., died Saturday March 26, 2011, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Al was born Feb. 4, 1926, in East Orange, N.J. He attended Princeton, graduating in 1949, and earned a law degree from Penn in 1952. He took time away from his studies from 1944 to 1946 to serve as a Marine in World War II.
Al was passionate about helping others. He spent the last 13 years of his life as president of Community Health Charities of Georgia, a not-for-profit agency dedicated to raising funds for more than 200 local charities that help people living with disabilities and chronic diseases. Under his leadership, more than 2 million Georgians benefited. He retired in 2005.
Al’s two wives predeceased him. He is survived by four children from his first marriage; two stepchildren from his second marriage; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his companion, Phyllis Keeler.
