Born during a snowstorm, this stalwart was still going to his law office just weeks before his death March 6, 2011.

A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Mo., Bob prepared at Southwest High and Kemper Military School. At Princeton, he majored in politics, graduating with honors. He was an editor of The Daily Princetonian and a member of the band, orchestra, Whig-Clio, and Dial Lodge. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1943.

During World War II, he served in the Naval Supply Corps and thereafter in the Navy Reserve, retiring as a captain after 36 years.

Admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1943 and the state Supreme Court in 1960, most of his law career was with Blackwood Langworthy & Tyson. He taught probate law and was chairman of several Missouri bar commissions. Gov. Kit Bond appointed him to head the Kansas City Election Board.

Bob served as Presbytery parliamentarian for 30 years. He was a YMCA volunteer for 80 years, serving two terms on the Y’s national board.

Bob’s wife of 64 years, Betty Miles Langworthy, predeceased him. He is survived by sons David and Mark; daughter Joan Tomek; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, to whom his classmates extend deep sympathies.
