Ed succumbed to recurrent cancer Feb. 13, 2011, in Trenton, N.J., where he was born and lived most of his life.
He entered Princeton from Trenton Central High School, majored in chemistry, and belonged to Sigma Xi, the honorary science society. He did postgraduate studies at Dartmouth, and at Rochester, from which he earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1960.
Ed held teaching positions at Colgate, Hobart, and the University of North Dakota and briefly worked for Mobil Oil before he dedicated the rest of his professional career to teaching at Trenton Junior College and later at Mercer County Community College. For more than 40 years, he taught a variety of science courses, holding several department chairmanships along the way. His Renaissance spirit was eulogized as a positive example for his many students.
Ed’s love of science was equaled only by his love of the arts, especially music. He was an accomplished organist, performing locally. He sang baritone in several choirs. Over the years, he involved himself with many governmental and nonprofit groups, favoring social issues and equal rights.
