Dick Jones died of pneumonia Dec. 17, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Del.
Born in Luzerne County, Pa., he came to Princeton from Wyoming Seminary. At Princeton, he majored in political science, managed the football team, and ate at Colonial.
Following Princeton, Dick earned a law degree at Dickinson Law School and then clerked at the Pennsylvania Supreme Court before joining the Philadelphia firm Drinker, Biddle & Reath, where he spent his entire career. A specialist in corporate law, he was Drinker Biddle’s chairman from 1989 to 2000, growing the firm from 200 Pennsylvania-based attorneys to more than 400 in three states and the District of Columbia.
“We have lost one of the firm’s greatest builders,” observed Drinker Biddle’s current chairman.
Dick was a collector of American arts and crafts. He and his family wintered in Amelia Island, Fla., and he often traveled to Wales to explore his heritage.
He is survived by Carol, his wife of 24 years and a widow of the Class of 1966;
sons Morgan Jr., Brynley, and Evan; his brother, Ben ’59; three stepchildren, including Stephen Lamberton ’99; and three grandchildren.
