Joe died March 25, 2011.
At Princeton he majored in biology and joined Court Club. His activities included 150-pound crew and “late-night poker.” His senior roommates were Merritt Cohen, David Mandelbaum, Norton Rosensweig, William Rosenblum, Milton Rubin, and Richard Thurer.
Joe earned a medical degree at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in 1961. Then he completed his internship, residency, and fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he specialized in internal medicine and hematology. He spent two years at Pacific Health Service at the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md.
Joe returned to New York City in private practice and served on the staff at Mount Sinai and Lenox Hill. He also taught as assistant professor in the medical school at Mount Sinai.
Joe’s hobbies were the stock market and poker.
Joe met his wife, Bobbie, in high school, and for 52 years they remained happily married. To Bobbie and children Russell ’84, Jessica ’97, Leslie, and Jeffrey, the class extends its condolences.
