Dave died May 21, 2009, at his home in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He was 77.

Dave came to Princeton from James Madison High School in Brooklyn. He majored in math and graduated summa cum laude with election to Sigma Xi, the national science honor fraternity. He joined Prospect Co-operative Club and the Press Club, writing dispatches from Princeton for The New York Times, The New York Herald Tribune, and several New Jersey newspapers.

He served in Army Intelligence at the Pentagon from 1952 to 1954. His career was in pensions and insurance as an actuary, first with Mutual of New York and then in his own firm. He became a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, served as a member of the pensions committee of the American Academy of Actuaries, and was appointed to the actuarial standards board.

Dave and Carole, who married in 1954, actively supported the Cleveland Opera and Orchestra as volunteers, as well as the Princeton Alumni Association of Northern Ohio, annually helping the Triangle Club Tour.

He is survived by Carole; three children, Ruth (Bryan Lever), Michael ’82, and Sara (Micah Zakem); and two grandchildren, to whom the class offers condolences.
