Mark Flavin died Jan. 25, 2011, as a result of a fall in his New York office.

Born and raised in Dorchester, Mass., Mark prepared at Boston College High School. At Princeton, Mark concentrated in history and earned a certificate in African Studies, graduating cum laude. He served as an associate business editor and advertising manager for The Daily Princetonian and was treasurer of Ivy Club.

Mark attended Cornell Law School, where he was executive editor of the Cornell International Law Journal. His highly successful career was in maritime and international law, and he achieved partnership status at Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens and at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn before forming his own firm. From 1985-1989 he was an adjunct professor of admiralty and maritime law at Hofstra University.

Mark enjoyed biographies and human-interest stories tangential to World War II in the European theater. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins, he also remained close to Princeton. He attended numerous Princeton hockey and football games over the years, and assisted the Princeton mock-trial program as a visiting judge.

Mark is survived by his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Richard Hartigan, and many cousins, colleagues, and friends. He will be sorely missed.
