Susan Fleiss, a California architect, died April 18, 2011, after a three-month fight with colon cancer. She was 35.
Fleiss received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Virginia in 1998, after which she worked for the Beau Clowney Design firm, and then Richard Meier & Partners Architects in Los Angeles. In 2003, she earned a master’s degree in architecture from Princeton, winning the Henry Adams AIA Medal.
She returned to the Los Angeles area and worked for Nicholas Budd Architects, and taught architecture courses at the University of Southern California. Then she established her own private practice as a state-licensed architect.
Fleiss had been a contributing member of the APGA, and a Regional Schools Committee member for Southern California since October 2009.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Fleiss, whom she married in 2004; their three children; her parents, James and Mary Nelson; and two sisters.
