WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL opened the Ivy League season with 3–­2 wins over each of its first three opponents — Penn, Harvard, and Dartmouth. In the first match, the Tigers rallied from a 2­–1 deficit to beat Penn, the defending Ivy League champion, at Dillon Gym Sept. 23. Lydia Rudnick ’13, above, led the Tigers with 18 kills, and freshman setter Ginny Willis had 48 assists.

In MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY, Donn Cabral ’12 finished second at the Notre Dame Invitational Sept. 29, one second behind Brigham Young’s Miles Batty. Princeton placed third, outrunning a handful of other ranked teams. WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY also competed at Notre Dame, placing eighth in its race. Alex Banfich ’12 finished 13th individually for the Princeton women. 

Freshman Sydney Kirby scored two goals, including one in overtime, as FIELD HOCKEY beat Columbia, 3–2, Oct. 1. Princeton improved to 2–1 in Ivy play and trailed Dartmouth by one game in the league standings.

WOMEN’S SOCCER outshot each of its first two Ivy opponents — Yale and Dartmouth — but was held scoreless
in both games, falling 2–0 to the Bulldogs Sept. 24 and 1–0 to the Big Green Oct. 1.

In MEN’S SOCCER, Princeton lost four consecutive games, including its Ivy opener at Dartmouth Oct. 1. The Big Green scored the first four goals — all in the first half — and coasted to a 4–1 victory.

Three WOMEN’S TENNIS players — Rachel Saiontz ’12, Katherine Flanigan ’14, and Lindsay Graff ’15 — won their singles flights at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I., Sept. 24–25. Princeton earned the team doubles title as well.

MEN’S GOLF placed second, five shots behind host Yale, in a field of 13 teams at the MacDonald Cup Oct. 1–2. Evan Harmeling ’12, Bernie D’Amato ’13, and Greg Jarmas ’14 tied for ninth place, with each shooting a 3-over-par 143. 

In its fall opener at the Princeton Invitational, WOMEN’S GOLF placed sixth in a 12-team field. Tiffany Dong ’13 led Princeton with a three-round total of 222 (6 over par), tying for fifth place among individuals.

SPRINT FOOTBALL scored its first touchdown of the season in a 40–7 loss at Cornell Sept. 30. The Tigers opened the season 0-3 with losses to Penn, Mansfield, and the Big Red.

MEN’S HOCKEY will open its first season under coach Bob Prier with an Oct. 28 nonconference game against Yale at the Ivy Shootout in Hanover, N.H.
