Bob died April 25, 2011, in New York City. He came to Princeton from the William L. Dickinson School in Jersey City, N.J.
A religion major, he took his meals at Cap and Gown. He was a counselor for four years at the Princeton Summer Camp and associate director of the camp during his senior year. He also was vice president of the Westminster Fellowship.
After college, he studied for the ministry at Union Seminary in New York City. He was a pastor in rural Tennessee and West Virginia but also found time to earn a Ph.D. in English literature from West Virginia University.
He returned to New York City in 1975 and became pastor of a small interracial church in Hell’s Kitchen. He also taught English at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
From his days at Princeton to the day he died, Bob was very concerned with the problems of the poor and the disadvantaged. His small church hosted several Spanish churches as well as drug and alcohol groups.
To his foster children, Robert Wright and George Garcia, and his sister, Sandra M. McFarland, the class sends sincere sympathy.
