Beck, born Sept. 15, 1933, in Chicago, died of lung cancer July 25, 2011, in Atlantis, Fla. He was 77.
A Wisconsonian from Wayland Academy, Beck wrote his honors thesis in history, served on almost every Tiger Inn committee, belonged to the 21 Club and the Right Wing Club, and made dozens of long-term friends. His roommates were Grant, Ruehl, Hamilton ’54, Slichter ’54, Emery, R.A. Frye, Henn, R. Thompson, and Bray. From 1956 to 1959 he served as an Air Force lieutenant at a Cape Cod radar station
Beck began a financial-services career as a San Francisco stockbroker, then returned to Wisconsin as vice president at First National Bank of Appleton. In 1973 he moved to South Florida and spent 10 years as either executive vice president or president of two community banks. He ended his career in investment sales in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.
Beck published two books, The World’s Most Valuable Investment Strategy (1990) and Peter Ege — His Family and His War (1994), a family history featuring the Civil War career of his great-grandfather.
Divorced from his first wife, Bridget Cosgriff, and predeceased by his wife, Judy Cripe Stellberg, Beck is survived by two sons; one stepdaughter; six grandchildren; and his loving companion, Audrey Wilkinson. To them all, the class sends its sympathy.
