Richard (known as Dick to his Princeton classmates) died suddenly March 28, 2011, of acute myeloid leukemia.

Richard came to Princeton from Rye (N.Y.) High School, where he was president of his senior class. At Princeton he was a psychology major, active in WPRB and Theatre Intime, was publicity director of Triangle Club, joined Tower Club, and graduated cum laude.

Richard recently retired as the CEO of Advantage Security, a security-guard business in New York City. He also held New York City mayoral appointments, including a four-year term as chairman of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp. and as a director of the New York City Industrial Development Agency.

For 13 years, Richard served on the board of trustees of the Joyce Theater Foundation in New York, most recently as vice chair. An unprecedented memorial service for Richard was held at the Joyce Theater in April.

When not traveling the world to take in the local music scene or purchasing folk art, he could be found at his country home in Kent, Conn. In Kent, Richard worked with the Earl Mosley Institute of Art and served on the board of the Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust.

To his wife, Karen Fry; daughters Annabel Stelling and Molly Burke; his sister, Priscilla Hawk; and two grandchildren, the class extends deepest sympathy.
