Comedian and actor Steve Carell will speak at the Class Day ceremony June 4.

Senior-class organizers said that Carell, best known for his role as Michael Scott on the hit TV comedy The Office, was the clear first choice. “His work has defined our college years, shaped our class’s sense of humor, and carries universal appeal,” said Class Day co-chairwoman Erin Kiernan ’12.

Carell won a Golden Globe in 2006 for The Office. He has starred in movies including Date Night; The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which he co-wrote; and Crazy Stupid Love, which he helped produce.

The list of Class Day speakers over the last decade has included comedians and pundits Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Chevy Chase, as well as Brooke Shields ’87, Charles Gibson ’65, Katie Couric, and former president Bill Clinton.
