A handful of Princeton students have been living double lives — their dorm rooms are split between Princeton Borough and Princeton Township.

On Nov. 8, residents of the borough and the township voted to merge, consolidating the government operations of the two towns. For students in some dorms, the dividing line through their rooms will vanish in 2013, when the merger goes into effect. No longer will those students have to consult voting officials to determine where to cast their ballots.
It was the fourth time the matter had been put to a vote since 1953, but this time voters in both towns supported the measure, which will save an estimated $3 million a year, according to projections. The University took a neutral stance on the issue. The new town will be called Princeton.
