Bob’s son, Clay ’69, called to inform us that his father had died Oct. 3, 2011, from respiratory failure. Charlie Hewitt followed with an obit and the comment that Bob’s obituary was “by far the longest . . . in the 20 years we’ve [been reading] the Naples Daily News.” All this is well deserved by Bob, a dedicated alumnus.

Bob prepared at Westmont High School in Johnstown, Pa., and Shady Side Academy, following his father, Robert 1914, to Princeton. At Princeton, he majored in civil engineering, graduating with high honors. He was on the swimming squad and softball team, served as secretary of the Engineering Interclub Society, and was a member of Quadrangle Club. In 1941, Bob received a master’s degree in civil engineering at Princeton.

During World War II he was a radio-radar communications officer in a Marine night-fighting squadron in the Pacific theater, attaining the rank of major. His squadron was awarded the presidential unit citation.

Bob served as secretary and Florida vice president of the Princeton Class of 1940. He was a former president and director emeritus of the board of the Princeton Club of Southwest Florida. His business career and associations will be covered in Class Notes, due to space limitations.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Kinter), and his daughter, Alice Jones. His survivors include Clay and four grandchildren. His classmates extend deepest sympathies to them.
