Doug, who specialized in construction engineering and management and dispute resolution, was our class treasurer from 1987 to 1992. He died unexpectedly Sept. 21, 2011, while in New York City on business.
Doug came to Princeton from Farmingdale (N.Y.) High School, where he played baseball. At Princeton he majored in civil engineering, played freshman baseball and varsity golf, and graduated summa cum laude. He was a member of Cottage Club and its vice president senior year. His friends remember his thesis on the methodology behind the renovation of a hospital kitchen in Flemington, N.J. They also remember Doug’s frequent on-site visits as his project progressed.
The company he started after graduation, Coppi & Associates, became part of Coopers & Lybrand’s litigation and claim-services practice in 1995. At his death he was a managing director of Navigant Consulting in Washington.
Doug loved music — from choral to Springsteen — and started Curtain Call Productions to produce the DVD Stand Ye Steady with the West Point Glee Club. He also was on the board of the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which provides assistance to injured veterans and their families.
The class sends condolences to Sharon, Doug’s wife of 30 years; their daughter, Kimberly; his parents, Charles and Louise; brother Eric; and sister Lisa Durfee.
