Peter died of cardiac arrest Oct. 29, 2011, four days after hip-replacement surgery in New York City.

Peter came to Princeton from Deerfield Academy. His senior-year roommates were John Nuzum, Ned Gaunt, Pete Campbell, Bert Laurence, Frank Pelton, and Ken Smith. He was on the swim team and dined at Quadrangle Club.

After earning his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, interrupted by a stint in the Army Reserve, Peter worked at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost. He joined Emmet, Marvin & Martin in 1969, becoming a partner in 1978. A pioneer in the legal aspects of American Depository Receipts (ADRs), he often provided expert testimony. Although he resigned his partnership, he was still a senior lawyer at the time of his death.

Peter married Jean Marvel in 1969. The couple had three children, including twin boys, and lived in a Park Slope (Brooklyn) brownstone, close to John Nuzum. The Tisne and Nuzum families share a spacious vacation house in the Adirondacks.

Peter was a longtime member of the Class of 1962 Memorial Scholarship Fund. In addition he was a church deacon and a trustee of Berkeley Carroll School.

The class extends condolences to Jean; and their children, Claire, Jack, and Philip.
