Memorial Robert G. Carter ’83

Robert G. Carter ’83 Robert Carter died Oct. 26, 1993, at his home in Greensboro, N.C.

 

He graduated from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. While there, Robert distinguished himself in academics, athletics, and leadership and graduated with honors. He was a National Merit Commended Student. He won letters in varsity cross-country, winter track, and spring track. He was co-captain of the cross-country team and a tri-captain of the spring track team. He was a member of the Chapel Council and served as a prefect.

 

He received an A.B. degree in English from Princeton in 1983 and worked as an English teacher and track coach at the Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, N.J. He attended law school at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

 

Robert’s religious principles and commitment to justice permeated his life, and his goal was to make life better for all people. He had a talent for bridging the generation gap and was comfortable in the company of all ages — from the very young to the elderly. Also, he was able to communicate and interact with persons from all stations in life. Robert was a Christian, a scholar, a humanitarian, and a grassroots person who lived a satisfying simple life among his many peers, friends, and acquaintances.

 

His survivors include his parents, Esther and Robert Carter of Greensboro; a sister, Gwen Adamson of Hinesville, Ga.; and a brother Jerome Carter of Fresno, Calif.
