He shows how the American Revolution was not only an attempt to gain liberty from the British, but also a bid for acceptance among the nations of the world. By examining the United States’ early interactions with other countries, Gould provides a deeper understanding of what the revolution meant. Gould is an associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire.
