Harrison Black died peacefully May 10, 2013, in Rockport, Maine. He was 94.

Hass came to Princeton from Deerfield and was a member of Ivy Club. After Princeton he attended Harvard Medical School and graduated with honors in 1943. He served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps from 1946 to 1948 at Scott Air Force Base.

After the Army he went on to become a nationally known thoracic surgeon and a pioneer in open-heart surgery.

Hass was an avid skier and sailor. He was a founding member of the Biddeford Pool Yacht Club.

Following his retirement from medicine, Hass researched, wrote, and published two volumes of family genealogy.

Hass was predeceased by Gertrude, his wife of 60 years. He is survived by his children, William Black, Timothy S. Black, and Nancy B. Carhart; and two grandchildren, Abigail and Emily Black.
