Boris Sokoloff died Dec. 8, 2012.

Boris was born in Nice, France, July 20, 1924, the son of a prominent cancer researcher and author. He prepared at the Lycée de Nice and IX Gymnasium in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He came to Princeton in 1946, speaking no English, but adapted so quickly that he became active in a bevy of undergraduate organizations. He played JV soccer, worked several different jobs on campus, and joined Key and Seal Club. He graduated with honors in SPIA.

Boris did graduate work at Columbia University and then went to work for Union Carbide. He and Joan, his wife of 62 years, lived variously in Greece, Switzerland, Morocco, and finally in Greenwich, Conn. He retired in 1984 after becoming chairman of Union Carbide Middle East and Africa.

After his retirement he started his own export company. Boris loved to ski, sail, swim, and travel; he was always busy.

Joan and Boris’ children, Katherine ’77 and Alexander; grandchildren Ana, Nick, and Alex; and great-grandchildren Sasha and Aiden have lost a talented, gracious, and energetic man. We all mourn his passing.
