John died Feb. 22, 2014, at his Bryn Mawr, Pa., home.
He graduated from Penn Charter. At Princeton he majored in modern languages, served as manager of the 150-pound crew, and was a member of Colonial. He roomed with Peter Randall and Tom McMillan.
After graduating in 1943 he married Martha Stokes and was a forward field artillery observer in Europe, serving with distinction in the Normandy landing. Postwar he was a U.S. military government officer in Germany, providing welfare and repatriation of refugees.
John devoted his life thereafter to the arts and cultural activities in Philadelphia and Italy. He was on many boards involved in Italian culture and education as well as numerous boards of Philadelphia arts organizations. In the 1960s he was awarded the decoration of Cavaliere Ufficiale dell’ Ordine Al Merito by the Republic of Italy. He was a Bryn Mawr trustee emeritus.
John was predeceased by his wife, Martha; sons John Jr. and David; daughters Mandy McDevitt and Nancy Price; and his sister, Nancy Heistand. He is survived by his brother, Philip Price Jr.; two sisters, Sally Chittendon and Evelyn Scott; sons Nicolas and Philip and their wives; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his companion, Eileen Rosenau.
