Charlie died Aug. 30, 2014, at home on Singer Island, Fla.
He graduated from the Lawrenceville School, and at Princeton he roomed at different times with Lefty Evans, Jack Nunez, Ted Walen, and Dunce Graham. He did some announcing on WPRU, was a member of Cannon Club, and received his bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering with honors.
After three years of service in the Navy, he attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1949. After working in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he moved to Cleveland and became a senior partner at Pearne & Gordon. He practiced law into his 80s.
His hobbies included scuba diving, sailing, and jogging, and he played a skillful game of tennis. He was active in the Community Chest (forerunner of the United Way) and was a member of the local Princeton Club and Mensa. He attended all but two of ’44’s major reunions.
Generous, loyal, and always a gentleman, Charlie served in the vestry of an Episcopal Church in Gates Mills, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Deibele, in 2012. He is survived by his children, Leslie Gordon, Susan Barnhart, and Linda Rosenberg, and five grandchildren.
