Michael died Jan. 1, 2015, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.

Originally from Philadelphia, Mike dated Sharon Dabrow (Penn ’81), whom he had known since seventh grade, throughout college. They were married in 1985.

A Woodrow Wilson School graduate, Mike sang in the Glee Club at Princeton, was involved in SGA committees, and was a member of Charter Club. He is remembered as a brilliant, hard-working, genuine, and humble man with a gentle soul.

Mike received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1984. He clerked for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia and served as a federal prosecutor there. He moved to Florida in 1990 and began a career as a law professor at the University of Florida College of Law. He was a beloved professor, and his scholarship included several books, articles on criminal law, and a mystery novel. The University of Florida created the Michael L. Seigel Criminal Justice Fellowship Fund in his honor.

He is survived by Sharon; their daughters, Nicole and Jessica; his parents, Howard and Bernice Seigel; and his sister, Michele Fein. To his family, friends, colleagues, and students who mourn his untimely death, the class extends its sympathy.
