We lost Jim Aug. 1, 2014, when he died of heart failure at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn.

Born in New Castle, Pa., he prepared at Andover. At Princeton, he majored in psychology, was Student Center manager, and took his meals at Cannon. Jim roomed in the Rockefeller Suite with Drew Hyland, Ted Newlin, Andy Higgins, Don Swan, Bill Marr, and Scott McWhinnie.

After earning a master’s degree and Ph.D. in psychology at Yale, Jim worked for three years in the Great Society poverty program. He then practiced clinical psychology with Psychiatric Services Associates in partnership with his wife, Joan, also a doctor. They did this for more than 45 years in New Haven, Conn., and nearby Portland and Cromwell, providing services to individuals, couples, families, and institutions.

He is survived by Joan; a son, Nicholas; stepdaughters Jennifer and Deborah; and two step-grandchildren.
