Andy died Jan. 2, 2015, in Greensboro, Vt., with his son Andrew at his side.
After attending George School (Pa.), he went to Columbia but transferred to Princeton in 1942. Andy majored in mechanical engineering, was on the dean’s list, and was in the Engineering Society and Cloister Club.
After graduation, he spent almost three years as an engineer on a small Navy ship. In 1948, Andy earned an MBA from Harvard. Two years later, he started his own company, McIntosh Equipment Corp., making pumps and process equipment. He married, had a son, got divorced, and moved to New York City. Andy reported in our 50-year reunion book that he was enjoying running his own show, being involved in evangelical Christianity, and ballroom dancing.
In 1996 he married Sandy McPherson’s widow, Grace, who had a growing family of four children, 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Andy and Grace took up competitive ballroom dancing and entered dozens of contests. They also attended four ’44 mini-reunions and five annuals.
Andy is survived by Grace, son Andrew, and Grace’s large family.
