GORDON DIED June 4, 1991, at the hospital in Franklin, N.C. He had been totally paralyzed and blind since 1964 and bedridden for the past 14 years. Before his illness struck, Gordon was a captain and supervisor for Eastern Airlines. He loved flying and piloted every kind of aricraft from Piper Cubs to jetliners, as well as his own private Cessna. But all that ended in 1964 when he was suddenly stricken. The cause of his blindness and paralysis was never definitively diagnosed despite the best efforts of the best of medical teams.
Gordon's patience, courage, and good humor through the years was matched, indeed made possible, by the equally valiant determination of his wife, Betty Jo, who provided the constant care and companionship that sustained him.
To Betty Jo; Gordon's two children of his first marriage, F. Gordon Stager Jr. and Marla Hines; and two stepchildren, Robert and Diana; we extend our sincere sympathy.
