Published in Nov. 22, 1989, issue

WE SEND our sincerest condolences to the family of Walker F. Rucker Jr., who died of cardiac arrest on Aug. 27, 1989, at UVA Hospital, in Charlottesville, Va.

Walker came to Princeton from the Phillips Exeter Academy. At Princeton, he majored in classics and was a member of Ivy Club. After graduating with honors, he traveled around the world and earned a degree in old English law at Oxford Univ., in England. Returning to the U.S., Walker began to study at the Univ. of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Law School. His education was interrupted for a year by a nearly fatal automobile acciŽdent; despite this setback, he completed his studies and passed the bar. He then worked for his family's business in Greensboro, N.C., where he had grown up.

Walker's friends remember him as an outgoing perŽson who was known to disarm people with his sharp wit and engaging style. Possessor of a keen and analytical mind, he mastered both Latin and Greek, enabling him to excel in his chosen academic field. Walker will also be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends. Walker is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walker F. Rucker Sr.; his sister, Ann Rucker; and his brother, Jim Rucker. All of them reside in Greensboro, N.C.

I am his niece, but I never got to meet him. I have heard so much about him, and I am even taking Latin and Greek in school. Reading this remembrance reminds me much of what my brother may become. Thank you for the letter — it really gives me some more knowledge of my uncle.
