Across campus from the futuristic Lewis Library, the Spelman Halls complex brought its own modern shapes to Princeton when it was built in 1973 to provide apartment living for undergraduates. The complex, designed by I.M. Pei, was honored by the American Institute of Architects, but today’s students tend to prefer the architecture of centuries past.
