Born in Martinsville, Ind., he majored in economics at Princeton. He spent two years as a captain in the Army and then earned an MBA in finance from Indiana University in 1958. During his working career, Philip was senior vice president of Irwin Union Bank & Trust Co. in Columbus, Ind., president of Irwin Union Credit Insurance Corp.; and director and CEO of the First Bank of Ceredo, W. Va.

Philip also taught at Indiana University and had many community activities after his retirement, including serving as chairman of the Asbury United Methodist Church’s building committee, board of trustees, and administrative board.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Ann; sons David and Douglas; daughter Ann; and eight grandchildren. The class sends its condolences to them all.
