Burt grew up in Harrisburg, Pa., and was the valedictorian of his class at Harrisburg Academy. At Princeton he studied history and international affairs in the Woodrow Wilson School, graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then explored graduate studies at the University of London and Harvard, but ultimately chose a career on Wall Street. After joining an affiliate of A.G. Becker & Co. in 1954, Burt rose through the ranks of Becker during the 1960s, joined the board of directors in 1968, and later was a key participant in forming Warburg Paribas Becker. In 1980 he moved to London to join the executive team of S.G. Warburg & Co.

In retirement, Burt devoted himself to service-related activities, including the Interfaith Council for Social Services and the Alliance for AIDS. He also maintained a keen interest in the University of North Carolina.

In addition to Nan, Burt is survived by his three children, Margo, Jennifer, and Jonathan; and six grandchildren, to whom the class extends its profound sympathy.
