Vol. 109, No. 9

Princeton University should honor Dean Mathey 1912 (Notebook, Nov. 19) in a significant way. No committee, no consultant, just the right man at the right time. It would never happen today.

Editor’s note: Mathey College, one of Princeton’s two-year residential colleges, was dedicated in 1983 and named after Dean Mathey.

Dean Mathey was a unique person, kind and generous to a fault. He loved his family, sons most of all, under trying conditions -- I cared for one, so I know his lasting love.
