Born in Nyack, N.Y., Martin had the distinction of being a descendant of Jonathan Edwards, Princeton’s third president. Martin attended Nyack High School, where he was a member of the track team and active in the National Honor Society.

At Princeton, Martin majored in electrical engineering. He joined Prospect Club, played pool and billiards in I.A.A. competition, and served as manager of the varsity track and cross-country teams.

Martin attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the first master’s degree in computer science awarded by that school. From there he joined Texas Instruments, where he remained for 31 years and was named a Texas Instruments fellow in 1986.

Martin enjoyed travel, genealogy research, and reading. He also enjoyed walking, biking, swimming, and weight training. He was an avid supporter of the performing arts. He was living in Richardson, Texas, when he died.

Martin was survived by Joan, his wife of 48 years; his son, Sean; his daughters, Elizabeth Kirchhoff, Catherine Silva, Jennifer Coates, and Ann-Marie Davis; and nine grandchildren. We have sent condolences.
