Jeffrey A. Bart passed away July 25, 2008, in Holland, Mich., after a serious illness.

Jeff, affectionately known as “Barto”, came to Princeton from Lower Burrell, Pa., and Burrell High School. Proud of his roots, he always wanted to be known as one of “The Boys from Western PA.” He felt strongly that football was only played properly in this part of the country.

A member of Tiger Inn, he starred on the football team as an offensive lineman and was a rabid fan of the Steelers and Pirates. After earning an AB in geological and geophysical sciences, Jeff stayed on campus and received an MSE in civil engineering. After Princeton he received an MBA from Grand Valley State, ventured into the world of banking, and ultimately wound up as a senior officer at Macatawa Bank in Holland, Mich. He spent a lot of his free time with two of his great passions — sports and religion. He was a tireless organizer of youth athletics and a renowned football ref (he also officiated baseball, softball, and volleyball). He found religion, was dedicated to his Lord and Savior and served as a Church Deacon. Those who knew him well said that he was a gentle giant whose physical stature belied his kindness and sense of humor. He was liked by all.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, Christine, and his son, Jonathan.
