Bob died peacefully April 3, 2009, at his home in Fairlawn, a retirement community in Sykesville, Md.

Bob joined us in our sophomore year. His brother, Frank, now deceased, also was in our class.

After graduating with honors in engineering, Bob participated in the Manhattan Project during World War II. His career as an automotive engineer began as a senior engineer in advanced design with Oldsmobile. Later, in a position at the General Motors Tech Center, he pioneered the corporation’s automotive-emissions program. When he retired in 1975, he was product-engineering manager for automotive components for GM Overseas Operations.

In 1938, Bob married Patricia Blackmore of Birmingham, Mich. They had two sons and two daughters (one deceased), raised them in Mason, Mich., and later moved to Oxford, Mich. Upon retirement they moved to Gaylord, Mich., and wintered in Melbourne, Fla.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Theodore and Robert B.; a daughter, Julia White; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

We take pride in the life and accomplishments of this good classmate and send our deep sympathy to his family.
