An unidentified student, top, hams it up for former University photographer Bob Matthews in the aftermath of Hurricane David, which blew through campus Sept. 6, 1979. The student strongman attempts to lift one of many trees felled by the massive storm, which was the first major hurricane of that year’s Atlantic hurricane season and was responsible for five deaths in the United States. In the second photo, debris brought down by Hurricane David blocks a passerby’s entry to campus through FitzRandolph Gate. Can any PAW readers identify these men or share memories of fall storms on campus?

The strongman looks a bit like William "Tad" Kepper 79.
