John was active at Princeton, serving as a guide for visitors and making many friends, particularly among his co-workers in the dining hall. Until 1979 and after 1988, John worked in various University offices (including admission and financial aid) before becoming executive director of the Princeton Summer Camp in 1971.
In 1979, he moved with his family to the Pacific Northwest and spent nine years pursuing a dream of establishing a community, using sustainable agriculture and green construction. These efforts resulted in a passive solar house that was well in advance of its time, and the experience, with other families, of organic and sustainable-food production.
John’s enduring contribution to the Princeton area, and beyond, was his vision for the Princeton Summer Camp, later renamed Princeton Blairstown Center. Under his leadership it evolved into a year-round adventure-based program serving urban young people and their families through a wide range of programs and services.
John is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughters Susan Danielson and Sarah Rominski; sister Harriet Cone; brother Dana; and grandson George. The class extends deepest sympathy to all the family.
