Cal prepared at Bronxville (N.Y.) High School. At Princeton he was on the board of the Nassau Lit, and a member of Whig-Clio and “The Club.” During junior and senior years he ate at Campus Club.

After graduation Cal spent three and a half years in the Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant. After World War II Cal went to work as a copywriter with Batten, Barton, Durstine & Osborne in New York City. Before long he found his true vocation as owner of specialty shops (“Caldwell Alexander”) in Southampton, Nantucket, Mass., and Palm Beach, Fla. In these shops he sold antiques and gifts, some of which he had collected on annual shopping trips to Europe. Cal was proud of his stores. His taste and ability to discriminate were acknowledged by a clientele able to appreciate fine things.

In retirement Cal continued to live in surroundings that were congenial to him and in which he had spent his business career.

He is survived by his brother, Ralph Alex- ander, and his nephew, Richard B. Alexander. To them, the class sends condolences.
