Gerald Hammond died of a brain tumor July 30, 2009, in Hamilton, Ohio.
At Princeton, Gerry joined Cap and Gown Club, was national chairman of the Undergraduate Schools Committee, and active in Orange Key and the Princeton Fund. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in architecture. Gerry roomed with Peter Beuret all four years; their other senior roommates were George Peyton, Walt Berger, Bill Galloway, and Bob Brumfield.
Immediately after graduation, Gerry married his childhood sweetheart, Gerry Grimm, also of Hamilton. In 1964, after earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from MIT, he returned to his hometown.
An associate of the Steed-Hammond-Paul architecture firm for more than 42 years, Gerry retired as president and CEO in 2009.
Gerry also brought vision, strong leadership, and a warm, helpful personality to the Hamilton Community Foundation, Hamilton Rotary Club, Hamilton Boys Club, Butler County United Way, and Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund. He also served as an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry; sons Jeffrey, David, and Matthew; daughter Kristin; and four grandchildren.
