Bob, who was in real estate and construction in Southern California for many years before retiring in 1976, died Aug. 31, 2009, after a long illness. He was 88 and had lived the last 15 years in the beach community of Carpinteria, enjoying golf, sailing, and Pacific Ocean views.
Bob was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., but grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. He transferred to Princeton from Principia College in 1941 and had the distinction of being in two Princeton classes — first 1944 and then 1943. He majored in SPIA, was on The Daily Princetonian staff, and in the Glee Club and Tiger Inn. He graduated with honors in January 1943.
Bob served on B-29s as an Army Air Corps lieutenant during World War II. After the war he traveled extensively, living in Mexico and Alaska before settling in California in about 1949. He lived in areas of the San Fernando Valley, Palm Desert, and Camarillo before moving to Carpinteria.
He is survived by Sally Boughton, his wife of 25 years; sons Robert III and Robert Strachan; daughters Judith Anderson and Nancy Healy; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
