Stan died Jan. 18, 2010, in Vero Beach, Fla. He was 90.  

Born in Philadelphia, he attended schools in Switzerland and New York, graduating from Roosevelt High School.

At Princeton he majored in chemical engineering, rowed on the freshman 150-pound crew, was a member of the Express Reunion Agency, and joined Dial Lodge.

Stan had a lifelong career with Union Carbide Corp., mostly in Charleston, W. Va., eventually becoming director of engineering for the chemical company.

Active in community affairs, Stan served on the board of the Charleston Area Medical Center and subsequently on the Hospital Foundation Board. He was president of the Arthritis Foundation of West Virginia and served on the board of Sunrise Museum and the Boy Scout Council. He was president of the Edgewood Country Club, and senior warden of St. John’s Episcopal Church. In addition, he was an adjunct professor at West Virginia University Graduate School of Engineering.

Retiring in 1982, he and his wife spent more and more time in Vero Beach before living there year-round.

Stan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Katherine Hwoschinsky Rose; his son, Stanley III; daughter-in-law Karon L. Rose; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Frances Robertson Rose, and granddaughter Allison Frances Rose.
