Hap died peacefully Sept. 5, 2009, at his summer residence in Asheville, N.C.  

He was born in Cincinnati and graduated from Wyoming High School. At Princeton, he was a history major. Among his many college activities, he was a member of Ivy Club and the Glee Club and won the Kellogg Trophy in freshman baseball. He played varsity baseball his last three years. He served on the Undergraduate Council and the staff of Chapel deacons.

After graduation, he spent three years in the Navy. He then joined Champion Paper Co., where he worked for his entire career, retiring in 1996 as its executive vice president. Among his many other accomplishments, he served as president of the board of trustees at Xavier University of Louisiana.

The class extends its sympathy to his wife, Dula; their sons, Mark and Mallory; daughter Ellen; and 10 grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established at the Wyoming School Foundation, 420 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, OH 45215.
